There is no greater power in all of the universe than the power of God. There is no greater power available to the believer in Christ than the power of prayer. While we make these statements over and over, both in word and song, there is often a disconnect between the words we utter and their application to our lives. If prayer really is so powerful why isn’t it considered the greatest of all ministries to be called to a ministry of prayer? Where are the prayer warriors? Where are the churches known for their prayers? Where are the prayer meetings which shake the foundations of the world.
Mary Queen of Scots once reportedly said, “I fear the prayers of John Knox more than all the assembled armies of Europe.” Are there such prayer warriors and faith filled praying today which might illicit such comment from the mouths of our elected officials and their peers throughout the world? Does the world fear the prayers of Christ’s church? Do the God-less among us shudder at the thought of Christians falling to their knees to cry out to God?
Elijah was a man who prayed and kingdoms shuddered, strength of kings failed and hearts of soldiers melted like wax in the noonday sun. And yet it is said in the book of James, “Elijah was a man with a nature like ours.” Elijah was just a man like you and me but he prayed prayers of faith and they were heard.
Prayer is our link to God and the means by which we enjoy relationship with Him. Prayer changes and shapes us. Prayer sanctifies our mind and heart so that we feel what God feels and hear His thoughts. Prayer puts us in the place where we might see that which God desires to do in our world.
God moves as His people pray. He looks across the world to show Himself faithful to the one who believe, trust and pray. He is ready to show Himself strong for those who would seek Him in faith and pull down the blessings of Heaven to earth below.
Trump, Clinton, Pence, Kaine; who cares about the will, strength and power of men or women! These and all others cower at the prayers of the lowest saint who would lift his or her voice to God in faith. The “prayer of a righteous man or woman avails much!”
“My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly lean on Jesus name. On Christ the Solid Rock I stand all other ground is sinking sand. All other ground is sinking sand.”
Believe and pray…
