Is one born bold or is it a learned trait? I would say the answer to this question depends greatly upon who you are asking and where they currently find their life. Some seem to have a natural sense of confidence and seldom lack boldness whatever the situation. Others seem naturally inhibited and lacking the quality of boldness seen in others. So what makes one different from the other? Perhaps an even better question is, “Why am I afraid and other times bold as a lion?”
There can be external factors which cause even the most bold among us to cower and be intimidated. In Acts 4 we see the disciples themselves, when faced with terrible persecution for their faith, prayed that God would give them boldness to share their faith. These are some of the same people who had seen Jesus feed 5000, heal the sick and raise the dead. In fact, many of these same followers praying for boldness had seen Jesus Himself raised from the dead! How in the world could they find themselves at the place where they had need of boldness? Yet they were facing enough opposition to warrant a plea to God for the boldness to share their faith.
WHO CAN BE CONSISTENTLY BOLD???
Boldness is defined as “
Those times when we lack boldness are moments for genuine humility and dependence upon Christ. They allow us the opportunity to trust in God for our life. All too often we are tempted to live in our “self” and depend upon what we believe to be an inherent strength; a strength often attained from the ease of circumstances and a misguided feeling of control on our part. When we hesitate to make decisions, are fearful, or step back from opportunities and challenges life brings, it is an opportunity to step into the prayer closet and find our genuine strength in Christ.
FACING LIFE’S CROSSROADS BOLDLY
Are you facing an important crossroad in your life? Are you hesitant? Are you afraid? You are not alone in your lack of boldness. In fact, scripture teaches you have great company. Some of the greatest followers of Christ are found in Acts chapter 4 and they too felt what you are feeling in the face of an uncertain future. We all face stress and fear in the midst of life’s uncertainties and it is in such times God demonstrates His life in us…IF…we will only pray and seek Him for such.
