My family and I are big baseball fans; we watch just about every Texas Ranger game. My son goes to bed with an iPhone tuned to my MLB App so he can listen to the ballgame as he goes to sleep. Each season we go to “Globe Life Park” for as many games as possible. Baseball is a passion in our entire family.
Our kids can name just about every Ranger player who has had any significant playing time this season. Our two year old’s favorite player is Josh Hamilton (she leaves the “L” out when pronouncing his name) and our four year old is an Adrian Beltre fan. Needless to say Beltre’s recent “cycle” along with Hamilton’s recent heroics have been a huge hit in our home.
Baseball is a wonderful sport in so many different ways but perhaps the thing I love most is its ability to make me relax. Watching the beautiful battle between pitcher and batter brings a peaceful calm to my life. The excitement of the hit, catch and clutch play adds just the right amount of excitement to make the package complete. Baseball is a beautiful game.
In light of our family’s love for the game of baseball there will be occasional articles referencing the subject here at simplechristianliving.com. Today I would like to discuss the recent decision to move Ranger center fielder Leonys Martin to their AAA affiliate in Round Rock and some of the life lessons his demotion brings to mind.
Center field in Arlington will never be the same as long as Martin is gone. We love Delino DeShields! He is fast, patient, talented and fun. But, there has never been a Ranger who could “gun em down” from center field like Leonys Martin. When he caught a fly ball with a runner on third, all of Globe Life Park held their collective breath in anticipation of the coming play at the plate. The man has a cannon of an arm and all baserunners “tag up” at their own risk!
I’m not sure where Martin fits into the Ranger’s future now that DeShields is firmly entrenched in the outfield along with Choo and Hamilton but players with Martin’s defensive potential don’t come around often. He is sure to play in the majors again whether in a Ranger uniform or not.
How discouraging to be on a major league roster one day and in the minor leagues the next! What courage, determination and hard work it must take to pick yourself up after such a demotion and try again! Perhaps another great thing about baseball is the testimony of its players to what a person can accomplish with a “don’t quit” attitude and the determination to succeed! Here at our house we sure hope to see Leonys Martin pick himself up and succeed yet again as a result of such personal demonstration and attitude!
What about you? Are you picking yourself up off the ground after a failure or unforeseen hurt in your life? Are you one of the millions who are struggling right now to do so? Never underestimate the power of faith, hard work and the determination to succeed. God is not finished with you yet! He is bringing you to His plans and His plans to you! Believe, work hard and succeed! No person ever succeeding by choosing to stay down when the going got tough! Believe in Christ and His plans for your life, get up and succeed at His plans for you!
