This morning a news journalist, her photographer and a person being interviewed were shot on live television. The event is shocking. Millions have seen the footage of these people being gunned down. The nation is shocked yet not surprised.
Today “The Center for Medical Progress” released their 8th undercover video exposing the butchery of Planned Parenthood. Millions will watch the footage of children being discussed post mortem as if they were commodities to be bought and sold at a corner grocery store. The nation will be shocked yet not surprised.
What has happened in this country is nothing new. We have become desensitized to wickedness of even the most vile variety. The same thing happened to the Romans as they watched men, women and children butchered for sport in the colosseum.
Americans have come to expect a sick world and the depravity that comes with it. We have come to expect the worst of mankind and find ourselves more surprised or shocked when we experience the absence of such.
Reports now indicate the shooter to be a former and disgruntled employee. Most will shrug this off as just another case of workplace violence.
There was a time in our parent’s and grandparent’s generation when school shootings, mass killings in a movie theater and a couple being shot to death on live television would have brought the country to its collective knees. Unfortunately this is simply not the case today.
We have reaped what we have collectively sown. We have sown death and are reaping a harvest 5, 10 and 100 fold. Our government has endorsed abortion, euthanasia and capital punishment. Our government (and we the people ARE the government folks) have discarded the mentally ill, cast aside the sick, homeless and hungry. Our government has embraced a culture where life is cheap and the individual unimportant. So why expect more than a momentary gasp of horror at a murder on live television?
What will it take for the country to believe in sin, wickedness, the depravity of mankind and our collective need of salvation? What will it take to show us how callous, cold and hard hearted we have become as a people? What will it take to show us the worth of our fellow man and the invaluable nature of each life (even that in the womb) in the eyes of God?
The malady we suffer today is simply the result of a secular mindset devoid of God or any kind of faith from which to draw deeper meaning. Most people today do not see others as worthy, valuable and precious. People have come to deem life as cheap and their fellow human beings as replaceable or even expendable. Doubt me on this? Just watch the eight Planned Parenthood videos that have already been released. How could such a macabre organization be legally and federally SUBSIDIZED in any country of any time in all of human history???
Our country’s present moral crisis is the result of dehumanization consistent of a people with no faith in a power higher than their own. Mankind sees itself as its own god and each person does what is right in his or her own eyes. People see the world from an egocentric perspective in which others are simply bit players or no player at all. There is no accountability and no sense of absolute right or wrong.
Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is
hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where
there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where
there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where
there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to
be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is
in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we
are born to eternal life. Amen.
Our nation needs Jesus. May we be bold to love, serve and share with them the true nature of God, salvation and true value of human life.
