The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Such was the sage old advice women passed down from generation to generation for years on end. And, at least in my neck of the woods, their advice was absolutely 100% correct! I am one of those men who appreciates what it takes to prepare a tasty, quality, “stick to your ribs” kind of meal. The stove isn’t just a place to whip up a culinary masterpiece, it is a place my sweet wife captures my heart! As “acts of service” go there is no higher way to serve me than by making a delicious meal!
Some of you may be thinking, “How spoiled he is!” And you know what? You’re right! I am in the midst of “spoiled bliss” because I have a wife who takes the time to make me breakfast each day before I head off to work and does her best to have dinner on the table each night when I return home. I have a wife who scans the internet, talks to her friends and researches old cook books in an effort to find tasty, healthy meals for her family. I have a wife who does her best to keep me full, satisfied and healthy. And you know what? I FEEL LOVED! Every time I put a bite of that cheese omelet, breakfast sandwich or some other egg white delight in my mouth I feel like a million bucks! She has taken the time and effort to do something for me that she knows will make me happy. YES, I can cook and YES I could make my own breakfast but SHE has decided to do it for me and it makes me feel the love she has for me.
Loving someone through acts of service means doing things for them because you want to do so. It is a way to demonstrate, in tangible ways, what you feel in your heart. One way Kim does this for me is through the stove. But there are a myriad of ways to do so!
You know what? I like opening the drawer and finding a clean pair of underwear to wear! I can do laundry. I can push the buttons on the machine and fold the clothes as they come out of the dryer. I am not helpless! BUT, Kim takes care of me by making sure I have clean clothes to wear. LOVE!
I like having a clean house in which to live, clean sheets on the bed and a home decorated for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. All acts of service Kim does for me and the kids. LOVE!
I don’t always tell her thank you like I should and I often take for granted the many things she does, but most of the time, I remember in my heart and think to myself how wonderful it is to have a wife who shows her love by the many things she does for me and our kids.
If you are married to a man who receives love through acts of service, I assure you, everything you do is appreciated! Every little thing you do is noticed even when it isn’t always noted. Don’t be discouraged and don’t stop what you’re doing! The language of your love is being heard loud and clear. But it is ok to pray God will help him be a little more OUTWARDLY appreciative of all the things he inwardly appreciates 😉
